A friend on twitter asked me this question today.
Here is my short answer:
Yes. He can hold you for contempt.
If you ask a question to an Emperor, he can order that your head be cut off that very moment.
It is all about Power Of Seat of Judge.
After 5 PM, when he gets off from his Seat of Judge, he will become a normal human being. You can also joke with him and ask him any question. He will laugh with you and will offer you a cup of tea for your intelligent questions. You will find that just like you, he is also trapped in a system where he has to work under lots of pressure.
But when he is sitting on a Seat Of Judge, he is sitting on Seat of an Emperor.
Treat him like an emperor. Bow to him.
Answer every question he asks, to the best of you ability.
Do not ask any question to him unless he permits.
We lawyers do it like this: "My Lords, May I just put a question to myself?" If Judge nods positively, we put our question as mildly as we can.
Always remember that the Judge is also a human being and he could have more shortcomings then us. But when he is sitting on a seat of Judge, we are all supposed to bow to the Majesty of Law.
Then only he will be able to judge your case.
This is the system. This is a very good system. This is how judges draw their power do justice.
