A tweeter friend asked me whether King Harishchandra would have survived today's politics?
I think we can consider both, King Harishchandra and Mahatma Gandhiji. Would they have survived in present times?
The answer to is yes. They would have not only survived but would have outwitted the present political class.
He was Role-Model of Gandhiji.
There are many person in India and abroad who live with strict adherence to truth. They never seek publicity. And publicity never seeks them. Therefore we know little about them.
I do have seen one or two such persons. You may also have seen some persons who are strictly adhering to truth.
They do survive and live on.
I think we can consider both, King Harishchandra and Mahatma Gandhiji. Would they have survived in present times?

About King Harishchandra
He was a king. He believed in speaking Truth and nothing but truth. He suffered great losses and even his family suffered a lot. But he never gave up his adherence to truth.
He was Role-Model of Gandhiji.

About Mahatma Gandhiji
He would have certainly stood up for truth. And he would have outwitted the present political class.
He would have used Rule No. 22 of Power against the present political class. And thereby he would have defeated the present political class and would have freed India from corruption.
What is Rule No.22 of Power?
To know that, you may have to buy a book called, "48 Laws of Power" by Robert Green. The book, was written by Author/s after study of powerful men and women of last 3000 years, (including Mahatma Gandhiji)
You have to read the entire book understand this Rule No.22.
Here I can give you only a brief bird's Eye view of Rule 22
The Rule says, " Use The Surrender Tactic (Ahimsa) and Transform weakness into power.
It means:
1) When you weaker, never fight for Honour's sake
2) Choose surrender instead
3) Surrender gives you time to recover,
4) Time to torment and irritate your opponent,
5) Gain time to wait for your opponent's power to wane,
6) Do not give your opponent the satisfaction of fighting and defeating you, - surrender first.
7) By turning the other cheek you infuriate and unsettle your opponent,
8) Make surrender (Ahimsa) a tool of power.
Mahatma Gandhiji was a great soul. But he was a lawyer. One lawyer understands other lawyer.
Hence I have written this.
Last time when I wrote about "What Gandhiji may have advised us if he were alive today", some person who loved Gandhiji very much, objected that I am not Gandhiji and therefore I cannot say what he would have advised. He is right. I have no authority to say that Mahatma Gandhiji would have used Rule No.22.
A Litmus Paper test to know Mahatma Gandhiji
I do admit that there is no similarity between Mahatma Gandhiji and me except that we both are lawyers. And we both belong to same District of Junagadh in Gujarat. That is all. I have not read much about Gandhiji, nor I am a Gandhian.
The one thing which separates most of us from Mahtma Gandhiji is his ability to wash toilets.
I have never washed toilet. My wife is an advocate in Supreme Court. She washes the toilets in our house because maid refuses to do it.. May be about 70% women in India may be entrusted with duties to wash toilets.
I am not sure whether any Woman NGO has done any survey.
And how political class would have eliminated Mahatma Gandhiji if were alive today?
They would not have wasted any bullet. Now newer methods have come to eliminate political opponents.
For example,
Paid Media, Morphed CD, Sex Scandals, Porn Viewing episodes, Police Cases, Sec. 144 cases, and if these weapons fail, then, sudden heart attack, a car -truck accident, brain hemorrhage, mysterious death in a hotel room......, there are now so many methods to eliminate an unwanted political rival.
And how he would have fought against corruption?
Well, this is my imagination. He would not have asked any one to take oath that he will not give or receive bribe from any one. He might have observed a fast now and then whenever a scam would have surfaced.
He would never ask the the Government to do an impossible thing. His motto was To Be The Change which you want to see in world.
He might have tried to show people how to pass through a toll-naka (Entry-gate) without paying bribe.
But this all is my pure imagination. I can say nothing more.
