When Supreme Court of India too was hit by an Earthquake !

Today (05-03-12) New Delhi was hit with an earthquake of 5.2 magnitude, just 48 Km.away.

This reminded me of Earthquake which hit Supreme Court of India last year.

Here are the details.

The Earthquake

The Earthquake came around 10.35 AM
It shook the whole judiciary
The judges and the lawyers across the country
Came out to see what had happened!

The epic center of Earthquake was in Supreme Court of India
The Earthquake measured magnitude of 6.8

For whole day, all TV Channels flashed minute to minute
Visuals of Supreme Court.
And next day all newspapers devoted three full pages
to show magnitude of earth quake.

It was a case was between two richest people of country
The Judge withdrew himself from the case
On the ground that one of the party
Appeared to have remotely
Tried to influence his conscience
By sending a brief to a law firm
Where his daughter worked!

This was just unacceptable to Justice R.V.Raveendran.

It had been since many years,
That a judge had boost up
morale of Judges, Lawyers and Litigants
across the country,
in one mega stroke!

The message sank right in the hearts of
The  Rich and The Mighty,
That they should not even remotely
Try to influence conscience of
Judges of Supreme Court.

In the mountain of Tibet

Younger Lama asked Elder Lama,

“Tell me, what has changed
Between elevation of Justice Raveendran
As a judge of Supreme Court
And his retirement as a
Judge of Supreme Court?”

“Three things have changed,”
 replied Elder Lama,

“Firstly, Laws have changed
In areas of MACT cases, Arbitration Cases,
And in large number of areas,
Where earlier ambiguity prevailed.

“Secondly, Supreme Court itself has changed!
The changes made within Supreme Court
are subtle and are not visible to normal eyes!

“Thirdly, Justice Raveendran himself has changed.
The process of presiding as a Supreme Court Judge,
Has changed his personality,
His thinking,
And his ways of judging cases”
Elder Lama replied

“Please tell me how has he changed?”
Asked Younger Lama

“It will require one to write a big volume
To describe the changes he made!!
And the changes which made him change.!!!”
Elder Lama replied briefly.

Perhaps, this time,
he was feeling shortage of words
To describe the mega work of the great Judge.

Words were not enough to
Describe work of this Judge!
